13 Months on…

Well where to begin…

The MMORPG isn’t going to happen for me. The rights to the book on which it would have been based were bought on the last day by a very large film studio for $150.

The site, well it had taken so long to make by the time it came round to finishing it it looked to outdated. So I have started again. I’ve done a couple of advert campaigns for a viral marketing firm so for a shell with just news articles on it isn’t looking to bad. The new version of ED seems un-popular its a shame UWF didn’t get finished the first time round but it can’t be helped.

On the plus side I have a much stronger toolbox of tricks and coding techniques I didn’t have last time round. Ajax being one of them, so expect to see bigger and better elements on the new version of Urbanwarfare.

That said development isn’t going to see much this side of August due to other commitments, but fear not I will do this before I retire!! 33 years to go!

Well 2 reasons really…

One is my new business is taken up most of my time (http://www.ne14hockey.com/) where CS:S has lots of good communities Hockey doesn’t so its more of a viable and useful project.

Secondly I may be involved in the development of a new MMORPG. Its all a bit hush hush but hopefully if it comes to fruition this site will have money behind it to get off the ground and perhaps be free to members if I can keep it not too costly. That said new adverts will be on the site shortly once Ifigure out how to make them XHTML strict.

So lets have a round up of the last month….

Well the site is according to a vague system around $10.7k not bad for an incomplete site with 25k links pointing at it!

I’ve added a toplist system to the site and the registration process will be opened in the next couple of weeks whilst I enable the last few bits that new users will want whilst the site is finished. Newsletters are a work in progress. Members tools include, mates, a mate to mate news broadcaster producing sexy Urbanwarfare HTML emails. Forums and internal messaging. The site has accumilated nearly 500 pages (according to our automated sitemap generators we currently supply google with 477 links and thats only including forum posts that are indexable) and it goes up every day.

Whats to come? well finishing the match management panels for players and match organisers is the next step after newsletters and then we move onto the fun part of intergrating HLStats into the system and producing a few top secret things for our servers.

All in all the end of August touch wood should see the site actually launched, recieiving clans and building up steam ready for the big one, Strike-Alpha a 5v5 CSS tournament with some great prizes and a lot of fun to be had.

Thats right the fabulous map de_urbanwarfare is going to be finished today! I’ve asked the guys at Dimension to keep it under their hats until I have time to write an artical about it with screenshots and some tactical notes. Its been what 5-6 months since I requested the map so lets hope it rocks my world

Urbanwarfare Growth Statistics

Although the site is underdevelopment I have made sure I can track the sites and communities growth from day one so the Growth stats are tracking total posts, users and most users online already so check it out, they cron and update every day at midnight but the most recent stats are updating all day.

Forum Complete

With a few minor implmentations to come at a later date the Urbanwarfare Forum (custom built from scratch) is open. There are only a few boards open to non registered members and with there being no registration form at present you wont be able to get a true feel for the forum until registrations are in place (which won’t be for probably another month) I don’t want to let just anyone look around the site before its complete.

News has never looked so sexy!

Map Delayed Again & New Re-think

Ok, ok, ok the map has been delayed again, but it is looking pretty damb good, the guys are now putting all the details and fixtures and fittings into the map so we should in the next week and a bit see the finished article… so keep an eye on the blog.

The site is not going to look like this but it will now look like this. I’ve seen this designed referred to as ‘Sexy’ which can’t be bad! This will delay the site but the summer is the target for this baby, and a target I will stick to or blow up my head trying to code like I’ve never coded before.

The map was delayed but I have been informed that this Saturday will be my first look at the map but it won’t include one of the more complicated sections of the map. More news to come shortly…
